BOSTON, MA (February 11, 1992) -- Intellicom, Inc. announced at NetWorld today TPair-426, TPair-406, and TPair-410, a family of low-cost Novell HMI (Hub Management Interface) compliant IEEE 802.3 10Base/T Hub Cards providing superior performance and throughput for networks of up to 250 or more work stations. The new TPair-426 and TPair-406 10Base/T and the TPair-410 Ethernet Coax Hub Cards were developed in cooperation with Novell's HMI development program. They support networks operating under Novell's Netware, and Netware Lite. They also provide a server based hub capability for users of Artisoft's LANtastic, and other popular PC network operating systems. They may also be installed successfully in pre-10Base/T SynOptics LattisNet, AT&T StarLan, and many other UTP cabled networks. The TPair-426 is a full size 6-port 16-Bit card. It's easily installed in a standard AT ISA bus, and features a 16-Bit network interface compatible with Novel Netware and Novell Lite. This network interface allows uncomplicated PC-to-server communications when an NE2000 compatible network interface card (NIC), for example, Intellicom's TPair-16T, is installed in the PC. When installed in a Netware 3.11 server, the 6-port TPair-426 gives the user a single platform on which to integrate managed connectivity functions along with file, print, communications, database, and messaging. Users can easily connect six work stations to the TPair-426, using simple phone wire, in an economical 10Base/T network configuration. An uncomplicated expansion path is provided by TPair-406, a 6-port 10Base/T ISA bus Hub Card with all the features of the TPair-426 without the integrated NE2000 interface. TPair-406 can stand alone as a six port hub in a PC network or is easily employed as a "slave" to the TPair-426, when installed in the same bus. TPair-406 Hub Cards may be installed in PC work stations and connected to the TPair-426 via the internal hub bus, creating up to 24-port hub groups. The TPair-410 coax expansion card is designed to be installed with a TPair-426 or 406 Hub Card to provide a fast link to a thin Ethernet (10Base/2) or thick Ethernet (10Base/5) network. The TPair-410 is equipped with a BNC (Bayonet Locking Connector) and AUI (Auxiliary Unit Interface) and operates with any number of TPair-426/406 cards when installed in the same bus. The user needs only to make a simple switch selection to choose between the BNC or AUI port. All TPair-426 and TPair-406 10Base/T ports feature autopartitioning. In the event of bad data travelling to any port, or a break in the connection to that port, the individual ports take themselves off-line. When the problem is corrected, the port comes back on-line with no operator intervention. All 10Base/T ports feature auto-polarity, so when the UTP has mixed wires the individual ports automatically sort them out. Both hub cards fully support the interoperability of various devices on the network. Each is a repeater, sensing changes in voltage on the UTP, removing out-of-phase timing, or jitter, regenerating data signals and aligning signal symmetry, then sending the data packet on its way. They filter all data, rejecting distorted packets. And they disable transmissions that get "stuck", creating a situation known as "jabber". This repeater/retiming on all ports allows a TPair-426 or TPair-406 Hub Card to be placed in a cascade up-stream or downstream from another 10Base/T hub or hub card. Quick-Net 3000 TPair-426/406/410 Hub Cards provide an economical way to expand an existing network or create a new work group 10Base/T LAN without costly additional in-wall wiring. TPair-426 and TPair-406 10Base/T Hub Cards provide all the functionality of large, stand alone hubs without the complexity of installation and inherent high cost. This networking solution is designed to accommodate the needs of the smaller office or work group requiring simple, affordable installation, set-up, and lasting use. Quick-Net 3000 TPair-426/406/410 Hub Cards are products product of Intellicom, a company providing high quality, lowcost, standards compliant internetworking products including an SNMP Network Management System, local Ethernet bridges, 10Base/T concentrators, laptop and PC network adapters, and 10Base/T-to-AUI transceivers. Intellicom also manufactures parallel interface extenders, and products supporting print functions, including network printer servers, peripheral sharing units, and in-line buffers. The TPair-206 Lite Hub supports PC networks running many popular operating systems such as Novell Netware, Netware Lite, Banyan Vines, and Artisoft's LANtastic. The TPair-206 is small in size, but as powerful as the largest intelligent multi-port hub on the market. TPair-206 measures only 6 inches wide, is a mere 9 inches deep, and just 2 inches high. This miniature Lite Hub features 6-RJ45 ports, each providing IEEE 802.3 10Base/T Ethernet connectivity over unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) for up to 6 computers, work stations, or file servers. TPair-206 has an easy to read front panel packed with three comprehensive installation and diagnostic LEDs for each 10Base/T port and the system connection. A handy BNC (Bayonet Locking Connector) for connection to thin Ethernet (10Base/2) and full repeater/retiming of the 10Base/T ports gives TPair-206 users flexibility not always found in larger, more expensive concentrators. This small, Lite Hub is a robust performer when used as a stand alone creating a new network, or cascaded from another hub, or when used to bring another work group on to an existing thin Ethernet network. Quick-Net 3000 TPair-206 is easily installed, requiring no exotic tools or special skills. All 10Base/T ports support IEEE 802.3 10Base/T with full repeater/retiming functionality. Repeater function includes sensing changes in voltage across the twisted-pair cable, automatically removing out-of-phase timing of data (called "jitter"), regenerating all data signals and aligning signal symmetry, and sending the data packets on their way. Like it's bigger brothers in the Quick-Net 3000 hub family, TPair-206 filters all data, rejecting distorted packets. It disables transmissions that get "stuck" creating a situation known as "jabber." Work groups and departments of varying sizes make good use of TPair-206 when up to four of these high performance hubs are connected to one another along a thin Ethernet backbone or cascaded using simple UTP cross-over cables. Since you can cascade from any TPair-206 port, you can get as few as 21 users on line in a simple one-to-one cascade, or as many as 480 users when you cascade all possible ports. TPair-206 provides uncomplicated connection to an existing 10Base/2 thin Ethernet coaxial network by way of the BNC (Bayonet Locking Connector) port. When the BNC port is used to connect to thin Ethernet, all 6 TPair-206 10Base/T RJ-45 ports are free to be connected to PCs or other work stations. TPair-206 is priced $375, is made in the U.S.A. and is backed by a 2-year warranty. It is a product of Intellicom, a company providing high quality, low-cost, standards compliant internetworking products including an SNMP Network Management System, local Ethernet bridges, 10Base/T concentrators, laptop and PC network adapters, and 10Base/T-to-AUI transceivers. Intellicom also manufactures parallel interface extenders, and products supporting print functions, including network printer servers, peripheral sharing units, and in-line buffers.
